Description
Dr Gupta honey recipe: raw honey, fresh lemon, grated ginger, and warm water between 95 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit. A real food-based morning drink tested and made in 4 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon raw unfiltered honey (wildflower, clover, or Manuka)
- 1 cup warm water, 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (never boiling)
- Juice of 1/2 fresh lemon (about 1 tablespoon, always fresh squeezed)
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated ginger root
- Optional: 1 small pinch Ceylon cinnamon
- Optional: 1 small pinch cayenne pepper
Instructions
- 1. Boil 1 cup of water, then let it rest 3 to 4 minutes until the steam stops rising. Target 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Never pour boiling water directly onto raw honey.
- 2. Pour the warm water into your mug first, then add 1 tablespoon raw honey. Stir for 20 to 30 seconds until fully dissolved and the water turns a soft warm amber.
- 3. Cut half a lemon and squeeze the juice directly into the mug, catching any seeds with your fingers. Stir briefly.
- 4. Grate 1/4 teaspoon fresh ginger directly over the mug using a fine microplane grater. Stir in. Add optional cinnamon or cayenne at this stage if using.
- 5. Drink slowly on an empty stomach 15 to 20 minutes before breakfast. Wait before eating to allow the ingredients to work without food competing for the same digestive pathways.
Notes
- Temperature rule: water above 140 degrees Fahrenheit destroys the live enzymes in raw honey. Always let boiled water rest at least 3 minutes before adding honey.
- Cold overnight version: combine all ingredients cold in a sealed mason jar with 1 cup cold water, refrigerate overnight, drink within 24 hours.
- Storage: make the hot version fresh each morning. Do not reheat leftover honey water as reheating destroys enzymes a second time.
- Substitution: replace plain warm water with brewed green tea cooled to under 110 degrees Fahrenheit for added antioxidants.
- Nighttime version: reduce lemon to a small squeeze and drink warm before bed to support overnight liver glycogen stores.
